Analyses by Burrell et al. (2015) suggest that one clonal lineage (CL2) is predominant in Florida, with its origin unknown. One other clonal lineage identified as I. brasiliensis (CL5 in Burrell et al. 2015) sampled from Miami-Dade County was determined to be the same clonal lineage from the putative native range of I. brasiliensis in Brazil.
