Other entities are sometimes recognized in this group, such as S. flaccida, S. minor, and S. nitida. Scleria minor has been characterized by being smaller (leaves 1-2.5 mm wide and achenes 1.5-2 mm long) (Reznicek et al. in FNA, vol. 23). Kessler (1987) noted "that a series of variations occurs between S. triglomerata and S. minor" and S. flaccida and S. nitida "represent variations of S. triglomerata, and their classification as separate species can not be justified."
