Quercus nigra L.
WATER OAK
**
**
This species can be found in a variety of habitats, from lowlands to uplands. One of its synonyms is Quercus aquatica, named by Walter in 1788. The moniker "water oak" has been in use for a long time, but may be perceived as a misnomer since the species can commonly be found in well drained uplands.
