“Simarouba amara has long been confused with S. glauca, but the two are amply distinct” (Cronquist 1944: 230). Simarouba glauca has the secondary veins as distinct dark lines abaxially, longer and brighter yellow petals often with red or orange, longer anthers, and is generally a small tree of open, drier forest.
