Description Common vine; only one open flower seen (early morning), odorless; corolla pale yellow; anther column yellow; young tender fruit only slihgtly bitter; larger fruits globose, 7 cm in diameter, green with pale greenish or greenish white stripes, with hard shell, the flesh extremely bitter; mature seeds gray-green.
Habitat Bosque caducifolio; coffee plantations with some native deciduous forest trees remaining, Platanus mexicana, Junglans pyriformis; in places, over shrubs.

Description Vine, wild, not cultivated; flowers nearly odorless, but with slight (especially in females) "sweet, cucumber-like" odor; corolla light yellow, the midribs yellow-green; anthers and stigma yellow; fruit still slightly soft, bitter, light green-green mottled and striped, nearly globose, the largest one 9 cm diameter, slightly longer; fruit said to have been used in poorer and more backward times for soap, not eaten because bitter.
Habitat Bosque caducifolio - selva mediana subperennifolia; ruderals in the town; over shrubs and herbs.
