Description Large clonal, multi-stemmed plant, over 7 m tall, mostly green, rarely with glaucous areas; young spines yellow turning whitish brown (tan); flowers 6 cm long with long hairs at base; perianth segments acute; styles slightly exserted.
Habitat Low hammock ridge in the middle of mangrove swamp; with Eugenia foetida, Pithecellobium keyense, Krugiodendron ferreum, Morinda royoc, Coccoloba diversifolia, Zanthoxylum fagara, Capparis flexuosa, Sideroxylon celastrinum.
